Essential Cooking Course for Students heading to University or College

If your budding undergraduate is off to university this September and you’re worried they won’t be able to feed themselves, then book them onto our fun and friendly one day student survival cookery course. Or maybe you are the student and you want to learn some basic cooking skills to help you survive uni life and make friends with your housemates by being able to cook a tasty evening meal.

Each course will teach essential cookery skills to help prepare for student living and keep anyone about to head off for uni or college sustained throughout their student days!

Student Essentials

It can be difficult being away from home for the first time – learning new things, making new friends – and having to cook for yourself on top of all that can be stressful.

Why not prepare students for their newly found independence by booking them on our one day student survival course. Some of the skills they will learn are knife skills, budgeting, cheap eats and freezer filling!

And don’t worry, all dishes can also be converted to suit a vegetarian diet!

During this course, we will aim to equip young adults with the knowledge and skills for practical cooking away from home while having a fun and relaxed time in our beautiful waterside setting on Exeter quayside.

If you are a student who would like to learn more specialised cooking techniques, you can also book onto any of our other cookery classes and get a 10% student discount (available to all with a student card).

Please note, for ease, we have already applied a substantial student discount for this course.

  • A basic spaghetti bolognese
  • Basmati rice using the absorption method
  • Eggs! Omelette, poached or frittata
  • White sauce
  • An impressive but simple puff pastry tart
  • Rich and creamy risotto
  • Simple self-saucing chocolate pudding
  • Delicious triple chocolate freezer cookies
